1,857 Additional Teaching Posts Approved in Govt & Aided Schools
The Kerala Cabinet sanctioned 1,857 new teaching posts in Government and Aided schools to ensure proper teacher strength after the latest student-based staff fixation.
Breakup of teaching posts:
- Government schools – 655 teaching posts
- Aided schools – 1,202 teaching posts
- Total – 1,857 teaching posts
These teaching posts will remain valid for the 2025-26 academic year, and after redeployment procedures, a number of teaching vacancies are expected to be reported for fresh appointments.
Reports indicate that around 500 teaching vacancies may be reported to PSC, which can create opportunities for candidates waiting in rank lists or preparing for upcoming teacher recruitment exams.
KTET Concession 2026 – Relief for Teachers in Govt & Aided Schools
The government has also announced temporary relaxation in KTET qualification rules for teachers who are eligible for promotion or by-transfer appointment.
Key points:
- Teachers eligible for promotion before 01 September 2025 can get temporary promotion
- They must acquire KTET qualification within 2 years
- Permanent promotion allowed if KTET already passed
- Ministerial staff / Lab assistants in Higher Secondary do not need KTET
- Special KTET exams will be conducted regularly
The decision was taken considering the legal issues related to KTET qualification and the need to protect the service of teachers.
The government clarified that the policy is to ensure that no teacher in service loses their job due to KTET rules.
Job Protection for Aided School Teachers – Rule Extended
Another important decision by the Kerala Government is to give job protection to more aided school teachers who lost their posts due to staff reduction after student strength changes.
Earlier, job protection was given only to aided school teachers who were appointed before 31 March 2015.
Now the government has decided to extend this benefit to teachers who were appointed between:
01 June 2015 and 31 March 2022
This means teachers appointed during this period will also get protection if their post is reduced during staff fixation.
What this decision means
- Aided School Teachers who lost their post due to staff reduction can get protection
- Such Aided School teachers can be included in the Teacher Bank
- When new teaching posts are created, they may be reappointed
- This helps Aided School teachers continue service without losing their career
According to reports,
- Around 242 teachers may get direct benefit and rejoin service
- Nearly 30,000 teachers may get indirect benefit from this decision
This decision was taken to ensure that teachers do not lose their job due to temporary reduction of posts during staff fixation.
Student Strength / UID Rule Relaxed
The Kerala Government has also relaxed the rule related to student UID submission, which is used to decide the number of teaching posts in schools during staff fixation.
In Kerala, the number of teachers allowed in a school depends on the number of students officially recorded with UID (Unique ID). If the number of students decreases, some teaching posts may be reduced during staff fixation.
New Rule
- Students who submit UID details till 20 August 2026 will be counted for staff fixation
- Earlier, the last date for counting students was July 2025
What this means
- More students can be included in the total count
- Schools can keep the required number of teachers
- Chances of teaching posts being reduced will be less
- Existing teachers will get better job security
This decision was taken to ensure that schools do not lose teaching posts due to technical delays in UID submission.
