The qualification is mandatory for the clerk / cashier and other officials directly involved in cooperative banking. HDC course by Kerala State Co-operation
HDC or Higher Diploma in Co-operation is a course conducted under State Co-operative Union. The Union is a statutory body established for Co-operative education, training, publicity and propaganda. The Union has 13 co-operative Training Colleges all over Kerala.
Eligibility for Higher Diploma Course
Applicants are admitted to HDC course based on their qualification and age.
HDC Course Qualification
Candidate applying for the Co-operative Union’s Higher Diploma in Co-operation should have completed their Bachelor’s Degree.
In the absence of Bachelor’s Degree candidates should have completed an equivalent course before applying for the course.
If the candidate is an employee of any co-operative society, then he/she must have completed 1 year in service.
Candidates who do not satisfy any of the above-mentioned eligibility need not apply.
HDC Course Age Limit
The age limit for general candidates applying for HDC in various training colleges is 40 years.
The upper age limit for OBC candidates is 43 years and 45 years for SC/ST candidates.
How to Apply for Higher Diploma Course?
Candidates should submit their applications online in the official website of State Co-operative Union website.
The submission of application and fee payment must be completed before the last date to apply.
The fee structure of candidates from various categories are:
General Students - ₹ 250
Employees of Co-operative Societies - ₹ 300
SC / ST Students - ₹ 75
After filling the online application form candidates should upload the scanned copies of following documents.
- Complete degree mark lists of each year / semester and page contains the grades / marks conversion formula.
- If the degree is from Universities outside Kerala, equivalence certificate is mandatory.
- Copy of Post Graduate certificate, if applicable.
- Copy of SSLC – date of birth proof
These are the basic documents furnished by all candidates. Apart from this, candidates who are Co-operative employee, “Copy of Board resolution” from the employer and a certificate showing the length of service.

Selection Process for HDC Course
The candidates are admitted to Higher Diploma in Co-operation strictly based on their Bachelor’s degree marks. The criteria is basic and mandatory for all applicants from SC / ST and General category.
While applying for the course, applicants must provide the total marks shown in the consolidated, mark list from respective University.
Students who possess Post graduation will receive grace marks while considering for admission.
If the applicant is the employee of any of the Co-operative society, then he / she must be a permanent employee. Note that persons working on daily wages, honorary service, commission agent, and Apprentice will not be considered as permanent employee.
The minimum service period for the existing employees are only qualifying in nature. The extend service do not provide any advantage in getting admission.
After the applications are submitted, a college-wise merit list will be published. Admission to each college will be based on this list
If the colleges don’t receive the required number of applications, students from state level merit list will be considered for filling the seats.

Apart from the above reservations, all colleges have 1 seat reserved for candidates from sports quota. Kerala Sports Council is authorized to prepare list to these reserved seats.
In the case of management colleges, 50% seats will be filled on the basis of merit. The remaining 50% seats are deemed as management quota.
HDC Course Duration and Benefits
HDC is a diploma course conducted by State Co-operative Union. Higher Diploma in Co-operation is a 12-month long diploma course. The course is considered as basic qualification for exams conducted by Co-operative Service Examination Board.
HDC Course Syllabus
In the duration of 12-month regular course there will be 2 semesters. And there will be six subjects in each semester.
Semester 1 Subjects are:
- Co-operatives and Co-operative Administration
- Principles of Management
- Financial and Management Accounting
- Principles and Practices of Banking
- Co-operative Law and Allied Laws - Paper I
- Computer Applications - Paper I
And semester 2 subjects are:
- Functional Societies
- Managerial Economics
- Co-operative Accounting and Auditing
- Retail and Electronic Banking
- Co-operative Law and Allied Laws - Paper II
- Computer Applications - Paper II
Evaluation will be based on external examination and internal evaluation, internship, viva – voce, assessment on internship, project work placement.
The 10 days internship can be attended in any co-operative institution and must be completed within the second semester.
Central Board of Examination conduct the final examinations of both semesters. The Registrar of Co-operative Societies (Chairman) issues the Diploma and the certificates are awarded to successful candidates.
CSEB Examination and Preparation.
Certain posts such as Junior Clerk / Cashier, to which CSEB is conducting examination, the Higher Diploma in Cooperation is a basic qualification. Only candidates with the diploma are eligible to apply for such examination.
Candidates who already have HDC will need a diligent preparation to clear the CSEB Exam. To clear the exam conducted by CSEB Kerala applicants are best advised to practice with CSEB model question paper and CSEB previous question paper.
