UGC NET Notification 2023 & Exam Date - Start Applying Now!

After much awaiting, National Testing Agency (NTA) has eventually released the UGC NET notification on December 29, 2022. According to the conducting authority, the exam will be conducted for 83 subjects and the mode of conducting will be completely computer based. There is an extra added feature in the curriculum this year. Are you aware of the new addition? Indian Knowledge System is the subject which got added along with all the other subjects. There are 16 exam centres in our state and one exam centre in one among our Union Territories i.e., Lakshadweep.

How often this exam is conducted?
UGC NET exam is usually held on the months of June and December, two times in a year. After the Covid outbreak, the exams were combined and held together. In order to normalize the examination cycle, the National Testing Agency (NTA), with the agreement of UGC is conducting UGC NET December 2022 in February & March, at different examination centres across the country.
Age Limit of the Exam
Those who are applying for JRF/ Junior Research Fellowship should not be exceeding 30 years on February 1st, 2023. Five Years of Age Relaxation is given for Women, differently abled, Third Gender and SC/ST/OBC- NCL candidates. While if you are applying for the Assistant Professor post, then there is no particular age limit.
What is the mode of exam?
The exam will be held in an objective mode, not in a descriptive mode. There are two major papers; One general paper (100 marks) and one subject related paper (200 marks). In the first paper, there will be 50 questions in total and in the second paper, there will be 100 questions in total. The subjects included in the General paper include: Reasoning ability, Reading Comprehension, Divergent Thinking, General Awareness etc. and the second paper will be completely subject specific.
Who are eligible to apply?
- Those who are doing their post-Graduation or those who have already appeared for the PG final year exam and who are waiting for their final results can apply for this particular exam.
- Candidates with at least 55% marks for their post-graduation or who have undergone similar exam from institutions or universities recognised by University Grants Commission in Social Science and Humanities (including Languages), Electronic Science, Computer Applications etc. can apply for this exam. There are some other significant sets of rules for the SET candidates, Reserved Categories and for Transgender candidates which are clearly elucidated on the official website.
When is the last date to apply?
UGC NET exam date is already announced by the higher authority, which will be conducted on February 21, 2023 to March 10, 2023. The NET online application can be submitted through https://ugcnet.nta.nic.in/ last date to apply for the exam is on January 17th, 2023. (Till 5 pm).
