UGC NET Exam Latest News 2023 |New Notice on JRF Age Limit|

Have you heard the latest news on UGC NET and JRF? Are you aware of the JRF age limit for men and women? Before discussing all these details from top to bottom, you have to primarily understand what this exam is all about. Since, there are a lot other college students who have only a vague idea about this exam. UGC NET exam is held usually on the months of June and December which is held for the aspirants who are aspiring to become Assistant Professors in Colleges. If someone wants to pursue PhD along with a stipend, then they should have to qualify Junior Research Fellowship/ JRF. If a person qualifies the National Eligibility Test with JRF, they will be given a monthly stipend of 31000-35000.

UGC NET Exam is held by whom?

NTA/ National Testing Agency is the conducting agency of this particular exam. On the 5th of January, they released a notification which says that the June 2023 dates are out. They said, “In order to regularize the UGC-NET examination cycle, the national Testing Agency with the concurrence of UGC is conducting the exam on December 2022 from 21 February 2023 to 10 March 2023, as per Public notice dated 29.12.2022.”

What is the exam pattern?

There are two categories: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is the Teaching and Research Aptitude, while the paper 2 is subject specific. You must have attained at least 55% marks in your Post graduation, and those who have lesser marks are not eligible to apply. UGC/ University Grants Commission conducts the eligibility test approximately for 83 subjects. The examination is held in the CBT mode which is also called Computer Based Test. So, the criteria is much different from that of other competitive exams such as Kerala PSC where the mode of exam is offline.

What is the Important Notice?

UGC has now revised the “JRF age limit” for the general category. Before the pandemic, the maximum age limit for the candidates was 30 years (general candidates). During the pandemic period, the age limit was increased by one year. Anyhow, after the covid issues, it again reduced to 30 years. If you are at the verge of 29, accelerate your studies as you have only one more year left to reach the goal. In case of exams like Kerala TET/ KTET exam, the biggest boon is that there is neither any age limit. KTET exam recruitment also happens twice or thrice in a year. (i) JRF: Not more than 30 years as on 01.12.2022.

We are quoting a small part of the NTA official notice here:

"A relaxation of up to 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PWD/Third gender categories and to women applicants. Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates with research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant / related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on production of a certificate from appropriate authority, which should be a recognized Indian university / Institute of National Importance / foreign university which is duly approved / recognized / accredited in its own Country / Public Sector Undertaking of Government of India / State Government in India. The research should not have been carried out towards completion of graduation or post-graduation degree(s). Three years relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates with L.L.M. degree. A relaxation of up to 5 years is provided to the candidates who have served in the armed forces subject to the length of service in the armed forces up to 01.12.2022. Total age relaxation on the above ground(s) shall not exceed five years under any circumstances".
