Overview Of KTET Category 1 Exam

KTET Category 1 exam is one among the four categories for which the Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan conducts the Kerala Teachers Eligibility Test to determine the quality of teaching and equip teachers to combat all kind of challenges involved in schooling. KTET Category 1 Exam 2023 is designated specifically for lower primary school level.

KTET exam has been mandated as an essential bench mark criteria by the State government as per the Right to Education Act 2009.

The various categories and their corresponding divisions are given below,

• Category I or K1 – Lower Primary Classes
• Category II or K2 – Upper primary Classes
• Category III or K3 – High School Classes
• Category IV or K4 – Specialist Teachers (Art & Craft, Sports)

Understanding KTET Category 1

KTET Category 1 exams constituted for teachers in Lower Primary School level pertains to syllabus taught for students in Classes I to V. KTET category 1 consist of the below mentioned papers.

• Child Development and Pedagogy
• Language I – Malayalam/ Kannada/ Tamil
• Language II- English/ Arabic
• Environmental Science
• Mathematics

The KTET exam which was earlier scheduled for the first week of May was postponed to a later date. Candidates who have passed or qualified any other alternate exams like the ones mentioned below are exempted from attempting KTET as prescribed.

• Candidates those who have qualified C-TET primary stage are exempted from attempting KTET Category I
• Candidates those who have qualified C-TET Elementary stage are exempted from attempting KTET Category II
• For candidates with NET, SET, M.Phil., PhD and M.Ed. qualifications are exempted from attending KTET category I to IV
• KTET Category III qualified candidates are exempted from acquiring KTET Category II
• Those who have qualified either of the categories I or II are eligible to be considered for LP-UP teacher recruitment

KTET Category 1 Qualification 2023

Aspirants who want to attempt KTET Category 1 exam should acquire any one of the qualifications as mentioned below,

• 45% in Higher Secondary/ Senior Higher Secondary Qualification and a pass in TTC/ D.Ed./D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education)

OR

• 45% in Higher Secondary/ Senior Higher Secondary Qualification and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education approved by NCTE (2002)

OR

• 50% in Higher Secondary/ Senior Higher Secondary Qualification and 4-year B.El.Ed. Ed (Bachelor of Elementary Education)

OR

• 50% in Higher Secondary/ Senior Higher Secondary Qualification and 2-year D.Ed. (Special Education)

KTET Category 1 Age Limit

Akin to all KTET Categories, KTET Category 1 age limit does not specify any particular upper age limit. However, the lower age limit will be that expected from a candidate who has qualified or passed a teaching degree after their basic degree.

KTET Category 1 Reservation Policy

KTET Category 1 exams as well as other KTET category exams do not prescribe any upper age restriction therefore no particular relaxation related to reserved categories are mentioned. However, reserved categories can avail for fee relaxations as mentioned below.

• KTET Category 1 Application Fee for General category is Rs 500/-
• KTET Category 1 Application Fee for OBC is Rs 250/-
• KTET Category 1 Application Fee for SC/ ST is Rs 250/-

Structure of KTET Category 1 Exam

KTET Category 1 Exam pattern follows a single paper exam including subjects like Psychology, Environmental Science, Mathematics, 1^st language and 2^nd language. The exam pattern will be of Objective type Multiple Choice (MCQs), out of which only one response will be recorded as the answer.

The detailed scheme and general curriculum are provided below.

• Part I- Child Development and Pedagogy pertaining to the age group 6 to 11 years
• Part II- questions pertaining to the proficiency of first language subjects (Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada) used as medium of instruction are checked
• Part III- questions relating to the use and knowledge of second language subjects (English, Arabic) in communication and comprehension are checked

KTET Category 1 Marking Scheme

KTET Category 1 marking scheme for various papers are as follows. Paper 1 will include subjects like Child development & Pedagogy, Mathematics and Environmental Science, Paper 2 will be 1^st language subject and Paper 3 will be 2^nd language subject.
