1) Introduction

HSST or Higher Secondary School Teacher is a post constituted by the Kerala PSC to appoint Junior and Senior Teachers in Higher Secondary level. The HSST Junior post was the most recently released vacancies by PSC for a myriad of subjects like Urdu, English, Economics, Arabic, Sociology, Political Science, Sanskrit, Geography, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics in the year 2021. However, the Kerala Vocational Higher Secondary Department had released Non-Vocational Teacher Junior (Chemistry) and Non-Vocational Teacher Senior (Chemistry) in the year 2022.

2) Understanding The Kerala PSC HSST Chemistry Exam

The Kerala PSC HSST Chemistry exam is one of the anticipated exams by the aspirants as there was a long wait before the finalization of the exam date on May 2023. The syllabus for HSST Junior (Chemistry) and Non-Vocational (Senior/ Junior) Chemistry Teachers are more or less the same.

Eligibility Criteria for HSST Chemistry Exam

Educational Qualification

  1. Master’s Degree in concerned subject with minimum 50% marks from Universities of Kerala or recognised as equivalent
  2. B.Ed. degree from Universities of Kerala or recognised as equivalent

OR

MSc. Ed. degree with 50% marks in concerned subject obtained from any Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT

  1. Must have passed State Eligibility Test (SET) for Higher Secondary School Teacher conducted by the Government of Kerala

20-40 years (usual relaxation for SC/ST/OBCs)

3) Kerala PSC HSST Exam Syllabus

The HSST Chemistry syllabus is stretched over four parts viz.,

  • Part-I -core subject or Chemistry for 70 Marks
  • Part-II-Teaching Aptitude and Research Methodology-10 Marks
  • Part-III-Salient Features of Indian Constitution and Social Welfare Legislations and Programmes-10 Marks
  • Part-IV-Renaissance in Kerala, General Knowledge and Current Affairs-10 Marks
