What is the Kerala SET Exam?
Kerala SET aka State Eligibility Exam is a test constituted by the L.B.S Centre for Science & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram. This is qualifying in nature and is a mandatory eligibility for aspirants to serve as Higher Secondary School teachers and non-vocational teachers in VHSE.
The exam is structured into two main parts, a general paper and a subject-oriented one. Here, the general paper has two sessions viz., General Knowledge and Aptitude in Teaching with a total of 120 questions. There are a total of 31 subjects in the core paper from which the candidates can opt for their specialization subject for paper II.
How many times SET Exam been conducted in a year in Kerala?
Kerala SET exams are conducted twice annually and the last SET exam happened on 23rd July 2023. Further, the result was released clearly after a month’s time on 24th August 2023. Checking out the overall results of the exam, Kerala has bagged a total pass percentage of 18-19% evidently this time. These exams are conducted state-wise and hence the pattern and syllabus differ depending upon the state. Further, as per the new regulations put forth by the UGC, NET/ SLET/ SET shall remain the minimum criteria for the direct recruitment to Assistant Professor posts in universities across the country.
Is SET enough to become an Assistant Professor?
The direct recruitment to the posts of Assistant and Associate Professors in Universities and Colleges shall be purely on the basis of merit. The qualifications required to be an assistant professor are as follows.
- The candidates with a good academic record and minimum 55% marks at the master’s level and an equivalent qualification in the National Eligibility Test (NET)/ State Eligibility Test (SET) or State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) are eligible to apply for Assistant Professor posts.
- Thereby, NET/ SET/ SLET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment of Assistant Professors in Universities/ Colleges/ Institutions.
- However, acquiring a Ph.D. after the onset of the service or holding one is required to be eligible for promotion to higher positions.
- Candidates entering the service as Assistant Professors shall acquire a Ph.D. to be considered for the role of Associate Professor.
- The period of time taken by the candidates to acquire an M.Phil. or Ph.D. degree shall not be considered as relevant teaching or research experience while appointment to various teaching positions.
- NET/SET/SLET will not be a mandatory requirement for subjects which.
Kerala SET Exam 2023: Key Highlights
Higher Secondary and Non-Vocational Teacher recruitment mandates SET as the requisite condition to be appointed as a teacher at State-run institutions and Universities that abide by UGC regulations. A candidate with underlying qualifications is eligible to apply for SET.
- Post Graduate degree with B.Ed. or should be pursuing final year of B.Ed. degree.
- A B.Ed. degree holder should be in the final year of their post-graduate degree.
- The candidates belonging to either of the above categories must have obtained and qualified the aforementioned qualification within one year after the declaration of the SET results.

How to Check Kerala SET Exam Result 2023
Applications to the SET exam can be submitted only via the online mode. Further, the results of the exam will also be released on the portal. Check the steps below to know the detailed guidelines.

The Kerala SET exam result 2023 was released on 24th August 2023. Further, the statistics suggest that an overall candidate accounting for 18% of the appeared candidates cleared the exam.

Overview of the overall pass percentage
The candidates must score an overall percentage of 48% in the general category to qualify for the exams. However, there are permissible relaxations for the cut-off marks for OBC, PWD, SC, and ST candidates which will be not less than 40%.

Documents to be submitted by Eligible Candidates
Eligible and qualified candidates shall produce the following certificates or send them to the LBS centre for Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram.
- The application form submitted at the time of registration for SET July -2023 shall be downloaded from the official website of LBS Centre.
- Copies of the following documents attested by any gazette-rank officers.
- Provisional/ Original Certificate and mark list/ Grade sheet of PG degree.
- Provisional/ Original Certificate and mark list/ Grade sheet of B.Ed. degree.
- Equivalency Certificate from any one of the Universities in Kerala or considered to be recognized by the state government
- Original caste/ category certificate of the candidate eligible for relaxation for the cut-off score
- Final year PG / B.Ed. candidates must submit a declaration in the prescribed format which should be duly attested by the head of the institute.
Validity and issue of the certificate
Candidates who have successfully qualified for the SET shall produce the certificates within a period of one year from the date of publication of the results. However, those who apply for the SET certificate after the elapse of one year shall be required to submit a late fee of Rs 500 for the next year and an amount of Rs. 250 for the subsequent years. The fee shall be remitted as a Demand Draft from any one of the Nationalized Banks in favor of the Director, L.B.S Centre for Science and Technology.
Subsequently, the certificates signed by the Director of General Education will be issued to all candidates who have qualified for the SET exam.
In case of the issued certificates being tampered with or lost, a duplicate certificate shall be issued on request by the candidate to the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology on payment of Rs. 1000. Along with that the following documents shall be attached.
- A Demand Draft of Rs. 1000 drawn from a Nationalized Bank in favor of the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology.
- An affidavit in stamp paper worth Rs. 100 indicating that the SET certificate is irrecoverably lost and this document must be attested by a Notary Public or First-Class Judicial Magistrate.
